Animals and Plants of El Salvador

      El Salvador is definitely not known for their wildlife, but there are still animals and plants that inhabit El Salvador. El Salvador suffers due to much deforestation and only about 6% of the tiny country is forest. Even with such few species and amounts there still are unique animals to each country. El Salvador's national animal is the Turquoise-Browed Motmot. The Turquoise-Browed Motmot is a very colorful and relatively small. Here is a video of the wonderful bird.

       Along with the motmot other commonly found animals are coyotes, pumas, iguanas, boa constrictors, monkeys, and deer. Also, jaguars, crested eagles, armadillos, marine turtles, and quetzals are rare. The most common type of animal in El Salvador are birds. There are over 400 different species of birds in El Salvador. Everywhere from the waters to the trees.

       Plants in El Salvador has suffered greatly plant wise. Forests and trees are constantly being destroyed due to farming needs.  There used to be a lot of ebony, cedar, and mahogany, but now only palm trees, tropical fruit trees, oak, and a few other types remain. However, El Salvador does have one of the only cloud forests. It's called the Montecristo cloud forest.
