Former NFL Player - José Antonio Cortéz

     He was born in San Vincente, El Salvador on May 27, 1975. When he moved to the U.S. he went to Oregon State and he was a kicker on the football team. He was 5 foot 11 inches and weicghed about 200 pounds, In 1999, when he was 24, he was drafted into the NFl by New York. He played 6 years, retiring at age 30, for many different teams. During his last year of football he played for a total of 5 different teams. He also had a pretty good kicking career having an extra point percentage of 99%.

Boxer - Carlos Hernandez

      Known as Carlos "El Famoso" Hernandez was born in San Miguel, El Salvador on January 23, 1971. He moved to the U.S. in 1991 in order to achieve his goal to become a boxer, but he wasn't just any boxer. He made boxing history on October 4, 2003 by winning the IBF World Jr. Lightweight Championship of Boxing and becoming El Salvador's first world boxing champion ever. That day, he was being cheered on by the Salvadoran president. He never won another title in his career, but he retire in 2006 after a very successful career with a win loss record of 39 - 4.

      Alvaro Torres was raised in a very poor family in El Salvador, but he had a dream about becoming a music star. It all started with listening to latin pop around the house, such as Sandro and Camilo Sesto. He started singing for pleasure until he started being recognized by his relatives. So, he moved to Guatemala to try to achieve his dream. He started out signing with a local label call DILA and released two albums. Then he moved to the United stated and lived in California, Colorado, and he finally ended up in Florida. In the 1990s he began to get popular. By 1994 Alvaro Torres was voted songwriter of the year. These kind of stories are what give hope to kids that don't grow up in the best situation.
